A Century of British Prints

At the beginning of the 20th Century, printmakers still had a foot firmly rooted in the Victorian period. Their predominantly black and white prints focused on traditional scenes from the world around them- landscapes, cityscapes and figurative subjects dominated their work. These small etchings proved enormously popular and the artists were feted and collected like Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst are today.

FARA OG KOMA / Coming and Going

New Paintings by Sophia Rizvi

Sophia Rizvi first visited Iceland in 1994 at the invitation of Karolina Larusdottir, one of Iceland’s leading artists. The effect was immediate. Sophia returned to her 2nd year at Byam Shaw School of Art and changed from making monochromatic prints centred around derelict city buildings to creating paintings in rich colours, based on Iceland.

Perfect Worlds at the SW1 Gallery

Central to the show is the art work created by local South Westminster school pupils as they envision their ‘perfect world.’ The show comprises a number of free-standing sculptures in the shape of large globes which are created from the pupils’ images of their ‘perfect worlds.’ Hanging from the ceiling or standing on plinths, the globes are going to form a fabulous centre piece for this show.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to add their ideas about their own ‘perfect world’ to the exhibition as they create these on the walls of the gallery.

From fast food joints to old men in slippers, Rob Pepper’s new series of paintings and drawings create a cultural comparison of two countries. ‘To There and Back Again’ explores Pepper’s fascination with using drawings to capture the essence of communities and includes moments from a modern day grand tour of Middle America, as well as his subsequent return to Middle England.
