THE LAND SECURITIES STUDIO AWARDS 2010 - 11 June 2010 - 24 June 2010

PRESENT EXHIBITION:  THE LAND SECURITIES STUDIO AWARDS 2010

11–24 June 2010

SW1 Gallery is delighted to present the Land Securities Studio Awards 2010 Exhibition. The Land Securities Studio Awards selects and supports one graduate from each of the end-of-year exhibitions at Slade School of Fine Art, the Royal Academy of Art and the Royal College of Art and has already become one of the most coveted awards at the three schools.

Launched in 2008, the annual award consists of 11 months in an Oxford Street studio, £5,000 for materials, a sponsored exhibition at SW1 Gallery and a catalogue. This year the award went to Nicky Carvell, Andreas Blank and Gunwoo Shin.

Robert Noel, Managing Director of the London Portfolio at Land Securities, had the following to say about the Awards:-

"London is an amazing place. It has something indefinable that excites people; stimulates their minds. Scientists, artists, heads of industry, social entrepreneurs all live, breathe and grow in London, creating an indescribable energy on which the city thrives.

At Land Securities, we have a responsibility to cultivate this energy, to make the city better. And that responsibility extends way beyond our property roots. Yes, we build new buildings and yes, we manage a huge portfolio of property in central London but our job is so much more than that. We are playing our part in shaping the future of London and as part of this role we should support individuals and communities that need our help to keep up with the pace of this changing city.

It is with this in mind that we established the Studio Awards. Our currency is space, this is where we can help the most. We are delighted to have been able to provide Nicky Carvell (Royal Academy of Art), Andreas Blank (The Royal College of Art) and Gunwoo Shin (The Slade School of Fine Art) studio space over the past year, our second year, as part of this award programme. Their work is testament to their exceptional skill and dedication, inspired in some small part, I am sure, by playing their part in this great city."
