Paula Leite

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Paula graduated in Cinema and Journalism from Rio de Janeiro University in 2002. During this time she worked as a Cinematographer’s assistant on numerous documentaries and films. However, her passion lay in still photography and so she became a trainee photo-journalist for a Brazilian national newspaper. The majority of her time was spent photographing the results of the drug wars that had broken out in the shantytowns of Rio de Janeiro.

In 2004 Paula was awarded a full scholarship by the University of Westminster to study for an MA in Photographic Journalism, which she completed in September 2005. Since then she has remained in London working as a freelance photographer and developing personal projects in the London communities. Paula has had a number of her photographs published and has recently joined the Comic Relief Picture Desk.
